Time to give McCutchen a chance?

Dan McCutchen threw a complete game shutout last night for the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees.  He scattered 5 hits, didn't walk anyone, and struck out 10 Syracuse Chiefs. It was McCutchen's second CG SO since his promotion to AAA. He struggled some overall immediately after the promotion, (frequently plagued by the "one big inning", that often ruined an otherwise nice performance) but has now given up only 1 ER over his last 15 innings, and has lowered his overall ERA to 3.36.

Given the way Darrell Rasner has pitched of late, and the fact that Sidney Ponson still sucks regardless of what uniform he's wearing, I have to think they need to give McCutchen a look. Sooner rather than later please. Really, what do they have to lose?

Welcome to the rivalry

After watching his 3 and 4 hitters get hit twice apiece in his start vs the Pawtucket Red Sox the other day, recently promoted Scranton starter Dan McCutchen threw behind a hitter twice, was ejected, and has now been suspended for 3 games.

Apparently, the animosity between the organizations extends beyond NY and Boston. Pretty funny.

More movement

All of it impacting the AAA Scranton rotation. First,Chad Jennings reports that Alan Horne will be back in the rotation early next week, which was believed to be in the works.

Really big news from George King at the Post is that Dan McCutchen has been promoted up from AA Trenton, where he was carrying a 2.52 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP, while striking out 46 in 50 innings.

Seems we may see the big RHP in the Bronx earlier than September.

Dan McCutchen

Another member of the '06 draft making an impression. Down at AA Trenton last night, McCutchen went 7 innings, allowed only 1 hit (a broken bat bleeder) and struck out 12 while lowering his ERA to 1.42 and his WHIP to an absurdly low  0.79.

He stands at 3-1 on the season, and currently leads the Eastern League in strikeouts.

In other pitcher news, JB Cox was promoted to Trenton from Tampa, Dave Robertson makes the same leap from AA to AAA, and Mark Melancon threw 2 more scoreless with 2 K's in Tampa. He should be moving up very soon as well.

Whole lotta pitching developing. I like it.
