Karsten's performance muddies the water

Or it should, in my opinion. Sidney Ponson was signed last week and had an adequate start on Saturday-and Steve White was waived to clear space on the 40 man roster. It looked for all the world that Ponson was on track to start the second game of the Met DH on Friday.

Then, yesterday, Jeff Karstens did this vs AAA Toledo (the best hitting team in the International League):

6 2/3 IP 2H 1ER 0BB 11K

Arguably the finest pitching performance turned in by a Scranton starter this season. Karsten would also be on track rest wise to make the start Friday night-and he's already on the 40 man roster.

I'm not the GM, but I would take Karstens in a heartbeat. He deserves the start far more than Ponson.
