Selected right out of high school with the 99th pick of the 2004 MLB draft, scouts loved his size, and his build. One went so far as to compare his body type and stuff with Kevin Brown. They also loved his plus fastball and change, and some projected a higher ceiling than his more celebrated '04 draft mate Phil Hughes.
Then the injuries started. First, TJ surgery, then a knee injury while rehabbing. Then an oblique injury caused him to miss 4 months of the '06 season. After all this, he fell off the Yankees prospect radar.
Well, he's back, and last night, he was simply dominating for Hi A Tampa.
Versus the Daytona Cubs, he posted 6IP, 2H, 1BB, 0ER, and 10K. He goes to 1-1 on the season with an 0.84 ERA. And after all the missed time, he's still only 22 years old.
The jury is still out on whether he can stay healthy, obviously, but you have to like what he showed last night.
